The YMCA began as an all-volunteer organization and to this day volunteers play an integral role in everything we do. Every YMCA volunteer matters. Volunteering with the Y doesn’t just make the lives of others better, it changes yours, too. When you volunteer, you discover a sense of belonging as you work alongside others for a common cause. The Y is more than a gym, we are a community that transforms lives.

Our YMCA Mentors provide extra support to help students reach their full potential. They meet with students once a week for 30 minutes, committing to at least one full school year. You can apply to become a mentor at any time! Mentors must be at least 25 years old.

We need swim lesson volunteers! We offer 2nd Grade Swim Lessons during the school year (8 week commitment) and Mission Swim in the summer (9 week commitment). Your time can help children build confidence and learn life-saving skills in the water.

Use your talents to encourage, guide, and train young athletes at the YMCA. Become a Head Coach or Assistant Coach for youth sports including soccer, baseball, basketball and volleyball. Coaching youth sports requires a 7-8 week commitment.

As an advisory board volunteer you will provide valuable guidance and expertise to help the YMCA grow and serve the community more effectively. Serving on the YMCA board requires a 3-year commitment, meeting six to nine times per year.

Champion the YMCA’s mission by reaching out to the community and encouraging others to give to support our Annual Campaign. Your efforts help raise vital funds that make our programs and services accessible to everyone, regardless of financial ability.

Capture the energy and excitement of the YMCA through photography of our sports, events, and community moments. Your creative skills help showcase the impact of the Y and inspire others to get involved.
Saying 'Yes' Changes Everything
Steve Hilts was training for a race in the YMCA pool when a swim instructor called out, “We need you!” At first, he brushed it off, but her persistence made him curious. The next time he swam, she stopped him again, explaining the need for a strong, male presence in our 2nd grade swim lessons. Steve decided to observe and what he discovered brought back memories of his own childhood at the Y, kneeling at the pool’s edge, diving in, and feeling the pride of mastering a new skill. Volunteering became much more than teaching kids to swim; it was about building confidence and being a positive role model. The experience was so fulfilling that he trained as a swim instructor and even became a lifeguard at 67. Steve shared, “I never thought I’d be in this position at my age, but thanks to the YMCA, I’m able to give back and make a difference. So many people can do the same, just by saying yes.” Volunteering at the Y doesn’t just transform lives, it enriches your own. Say yes today and see how far your impact can reach.
